Introduction: Meet Adam

Hello everyone. My name is Adam McNulty and I was born and raised in the wonderful city of Tulsa, Oklahoma. In 2011, I graduated from Union High School, where I played baseball and wrestled. I am the oldest of three boys, so I have been doing my best to set a good example for them. I am now a senior majoring in Chemical Biosciences and minoring in Health and Exercise Science. I am wrapping up my undergraduate years, as I will be graduating in May, but I will be starting medical school next year at the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine in Oklahoma City. I am not completely sure what I want to specialize in yet, but I am very interested in sports medicine, emergency medicine, orthopedics, and surgery.

In addition to Mythology and Folklore, I am currently taking Intermediate Spanish, Physical Chemistry Lab, Principles of Personal Training, and Proteomics (a course on proteins). I am also a teaching assistant for Chemistry 2 here at OU, so I will be teaching a lab section and recitation section each week. With this position and all of my classes I should have a busy semester ahead of me. I am looking forward to it though, and I am counting down the days until I graduate in May.

Some of my favorite things to do include playing intramural sports, watching the Oklahoma Sooners play football, baseball, and basketball, and watch the Oklahoma City Thunder play. I love sports and being active, which is part of the reason that I chose to minor in Health and Exercise Science. I also enjoy spending time and going out with my Sigma Chi fraternity brothers. I also love to eat and sleep, which seems to be pretty common hobbies among the college students.

That's just a little bit about myself. I look forward to getting to know everyone this semester!

  1. Hey Adam!
My name is Sarah and like you I was raised in the city of Tulsa, Oklahoma. I graduated from Jenks High School. I guess that kind of makes us rivals. I have three brothers as well but I am not the oldest. I have two older brothers and one younger brother. My younger brother goes to Baylor University. It’s really cool that you will be going to medical school next year. My roommate is currently studying for her MCAT so I know the medical field can be pretty stressful at times. Maybe you can give her some pointers!

  2. Oh wow, medical school: what an adventure that will be Adam! I hope this class can be a good addition to the science there: stories AND proteins! Maybe you will want to do a project for this class related to sports: the theme of athletics, sports, competitions, all of that is an important part of the folklore and mythology of the world. And, of course, in the imaginary world, animals can be athletes, too, like in all the folklore about races run between different animals, the tortoise and the hare just being one of the most famous! I hope you will enjoy the class! :-)

  4. Hey Adam-

I too like to eat and sleep. Haha, it seems like that's all I did over Christmas break. Man, I am impressed by anyone ambitious enough to go to medical school. I have a fraternity brother at Johns Hopkins Medical School. He's unbelievably smart, obviously. Congrats on getting into OU College of Medicine in OKC. I'm sure it will be incredibly challenging and stressful, but ultimately rewarding.

I too enjoy intramural sports and I live for OU Football. Though I grew up a Mavs fan, I definitely have transitioned to being an OKC fan. Thunder Up!

  6. Hey Adam! How strange, I went to Union and graduated the same year as you ;) I guess I knew most of this about you but congrats on getting accepted to OU medical school! That's so awesome! I definitely feel your pain being busy all semester, not only with school but with work as well. It doesn't leave much time for the more important things like sleeping and eating. I am also counting down the days until graduation. Good luck!

  7. Adam: Wow, that's a lot of chemistry in one semester! Proteomics sounds pretty cool…is it with Dr. Si Wu? How do you like it so far?

Congrats on getting into med school. It sounds like you will have a good experience; enjoy your time there!

Regarding being a chem TA, it sounds like that would entail a lot of grading but would be interesting.

Good luck with the rest of the semester!

  8. Hi Adam! It is nice to meet you. I actually went to Union’s prom in 2011! That is very exciting that you will be attending medical school. I am sure you will figure out what you want to specialize in once you start doing clinicals/rotations. More than likely you will change your mind about 100 times. Your semester seems really busy and I bet you are counting down the days, so am I. Good luck this year and in medical school.

  9. Hi Adam! Congrats on this being your last semester and graduating in May! I am also graduating in May, and I am so excited. I am also from Tulsa, but I went to Jenks High School (woo rivalry)! That's great that you'll be continuing med school at OU's Medical School. I'm sure any of those programs or specialties would be great. It definitely sounds like you have a busy semester, so I hope it is going well and you are enjoying your last semester at OU!

  10. It's nice to meet you, Adam. First of all, congratulations on this being your last semester at OU for your undergraduate degree. This is also my last semester at OU too. It seems like a lot of our classmates are graduating this semester as well. I started out heading toward a degree in Health & Sport Science, but changed to Psychology not too long ago. I find it fascinating to be a TA. I'm a TA for a Psychology professor and I love it. It's also nice to meet someone who is from Tulsa like I am. I was born & raised there too, but moved to the Moore/Norman area in 2000 and have been here ever since. I still visit my family in Tulsa as often as I can & still love to see the sights and the town. As I'm sure you do, I have lots of fond memories from when I lived there. Again, congrats on your upcoming graduation and good luck with this semester!

It sounds like you are going to be staying pretty busy with that. I also love to eat and sleep but it doesn't seem to be much of an option with a busy schedule. Well, I hope you enjoy your last undergraduate semester!

  12. Congrats on making to graduation Adam. I certainly can't believe that us being done with undergrad is just around the corner. Also congrats on making it into med school at OU. I know that competition for that can be very tight and hard to get through. I know it is certainly a weight off of my shoulders to know what I am doing after graduation.

  13. Adam. Congrats on graduating in May. I am also graduating this May and ready to see what happens after undergrad. That is cool that you are majoring in Chemical Bioscience. Good luck after graduation! I also enjoy sports and it sucks that football season only lasts throughout the fall. And yes, eating and sleeping is also a great thing haha.
